Study Support at Castle Grove Infant School
Study support is learning activity outside normal lessons which young people take part in voluntarily. Study Support embraces many activities at Castle Grove Infant School, including philosophy, art, football, dance, ICT, maths, class visits, breakfast club, working with local artists, drama productions, book weeks, sewing groups, music workshops and first aid training for pupils.
There is now a considerable body of research that shows the very significant gains in learning that are made from young people’s participation in study support activities. Pupils become enthusiastic self motivated learners. They are encouraged to believe in themselves and in their own ability to succeed. Self esteem is raised. Pupils develop the skills to learn more effectively and think more creatively.
At Castle Grove we aim to provide our pupils with a broad and rich curriculum with a choice of out of hours opportunities. Pupils are encouraged to play an active part in the clubs offered at school. A number of clubs are planned and delivered by the children during break times. Many clubs are run by experienced school based staff and are free of charge. In addition, the school offers a number of sporting clubs run by professional coaches, for which there is a small fee. These are recommended to us by the School Sport Advisors and all coaches are registered with the Criminal Records Bureau.
We aim to meet the needs of every individual in school and are committed to the continuation of high quality study support. We are currently doing a full evaluation of our out of hours provision as part of a Quality Development Programme.
